Colibri Azul - Paper lithography and colograph

Born in Bogota, Colombia, I relocated to the United States in 1999 to pursue an MFA at Florida State University where I worked on video installations, printmaking, and mixed media, culminating in the esteemed FSU Graduate Student Excellence in Visual Arts Fellowship in 2003. After my academic journey, I settled in Birmingham, AL, where I still reside. I have extensive experience collaborating with local organizations, museums, and community centers to bring art and art education to the community. I've been involved in public art projects, including murals and community collaborative artworks, with organizations such as the Birmingham Museum of Art, the Birmingham Civil Rights Museum, the Black Cherry Tree Project, and Bare Hands. Serving as the Artistic Director of the Day of the Dead Festival in Birmingham, I oversaw one of the South's largest art installations. I continue to be an active member of the Bare Hands Inc. Advisory Board and Paper Workers Local and local art coop.

My mixed media installations spring from my encounters with death and loss, my spiritual upbringing, and my Colombian heritage, all inextricably tied to the literary marvel of Magic Realism. My work has been exhibited in national and international exhibitions.
